This weekend will be our last 2 of 8 new garden bed installations in Holyoke backyards. We’ve been building beds in snow, rain and unexpectedly nice weather since mid-April, and after several years of building too late, we’ve finally gotten our timing down so that all the beds will be built by the time the Windy Ridge Holyoke Seedling Shares are delivered next week! Residents who receive beds from us and purchased a seedling share with SNAP/HIP, will have a ready made food garden. Windy Ridge even provides a planting plan for spacing the plants in the two 4’x8′ garden beds.
We are excited to announce that on 5/4 we opened applications for Holyoke residents to receive 3 bucket planters, complete with soil and veggie plants. Applications will close on 5/18. As our goal is to increase food security in Holyoke, our program prioritizes residents with the greatest need, using a rating system that considers SNAP participation, food insecurity, BIPOC status, rental housing, family size, and location.
